Rootin' Tootin' Typin' Tide

"Literal Hand-to-Hand Combat on a Keyboard Battlefield"

Rootin’ Tootin’ Typin’ Tide was made during the Glasgow Global Game Jam 2017, under the theme of ‘Waves’, by a team of 5 people., where I was one of two Designers. It was created on Unity 5.

The game is played entirely with a Keyboard and requires two players to stand side-by-side and place their right hand on the keys. On either side of the screen, two button prompts appear which each player on the corresponding side must press. The only rule of the game is that each player can only have one hand on the keyboard.

The aim of the games Design was to force strangers to interact with each other, as the random key prompts lead to players having to invade one-another’s personal space. The score meter responds to each key press and creates a tug-of-war effect as the score for each player responds to each key press.

Rootin’ Tootin’ Typin’ Tide won Best Design at the Global Game Jam 2017, and an IGDA Scotland Players Choice award. The game was then awarded a place at GamesAreForEveryone Volume 5 in Edinburgh.
